The role of translators in the development and enrichment of any literary context is monumental. The contemporary situation of literature often requires the translator to be an agent as well, to actively present to publishers authors from the language he or she knows.
This is why the long-standing partnership between the Reading Sofia Foundation and the Next Page Foundation and the Literature and Translation House is of great importance for the wider public representation of translators and their work. The event 10 Stories from Young Translators on April 26 at 2:30 pm at Shtrack is dedicated to the important profession of translation.
Since 2024, Brigitte Mancuso, Valentina Zlateva, Dayana Gocova, Dimana Miteva, Evgenia Geneva, Elena Dimitrova, Elissaveta Manolova Maciel, Ivana Peneva, Katerina Stoyanova and Tsvetomira Mladenova have been participating in the CELA - Connecting Emerging Literary Artists project to become part of building a European literary network that connects emerging translators and writers from 11 European countries. The Bulgarian translators are already working together with the CELA writers to translate extracts of their works from Italian, Ukrainian, Slovenian, Polish, Dutch, Romanian, Spanish, Czech and Serbian into Bulgarian.

Excerpts from the texts of different authors will be read. In addition, the writer, journalist and translator Gergana Galabova will talk to all ten participants about the everlasting and relevant challenges facing the art of literary translation, how exactly a translator works, how to translate a cultural context, how to find the right title in another language. Questions will also be raised about the translator's place in the entire literary ecosystem, their role in book selection and author representation, and public performance.
