Conversation with
Paul Lynch, Ireland
Moderator: Dimitar Kambourov
⇢ Simultaneous interpretation from English: Lazura Sredkova
Paul Lynch - the Irish writer, film critic, and winner of the 2023 Booker Prize - will close the tenth edition of Literary Talks Sofia! The conversation with him will take place on April 25 at 7:00 p.m. at City Stage, and will be moderated by Bulgarian literary theorist, critic, lecturer, and translator Dimitar Kamburov.
Lynch is often compared to literary giants such as William Faulkner, Cormac McCarthy, Seamus Heaney, and Samuel Beckett; his work is highly recognizable for its poetic style and emotional intensity. His novels have been translated into over 40 languages.
He won the Booker Prize for his fifth novel, Prophet Song, published in Bulgarian in a translation by Iglika Vasileva by List Publishing. The novel has also been nominated for several prestigious international awards, including the Dublin Literary Award, the Italian Strega Prize, and the American Kirkus Prize.
Paul Lynch was born in 1977 in Limerick, Ireland. He grew up in Donegal and now lives in Dublin. Since 2024, he has taught creative writing at the University of Maynooth. He was elected a member of Aosdána — the Irish Academy of Artists who have made an exceptional contribution to the arts. In 2025, he received an honorary Doctor of Letters degree from the University of Limerick for his “remarkable contribution to literature.” That same year, he was awarded the title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres by the French Ministry of Culture.
Very soon, List Publishing will release another of his books in Bulgarian.
